Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) and Gammon Infrastructure finalised a 30-year concession agreement that gives the company the right to construct and operate a coal handling terminal at the port.
Gammon would built the terminal at a total estimated cost of Rs 300 crore with a capacity of 2.33 million tonne per annum.
Mormugao Port selected Gammon for the project as the latter offered a revenue share of 33.66 percent. JSW, which was the only other company shortlisted for the port project, offered a revenue share of 27 percent.
Gammon would operate the berth number 11 on a build operate transfer (BoT) basis and would handle both export and import coal at the terminal, said Subhrarabinda Birabar, head of port sector, Gammon Infrastructure.
Gammon is also developing the Indira container terminal in Mumbai Port with a capacity of 1.2 million twenty-foot equivalent unit and two more terminals in Vishakhapatnam, Paradip Port Trust with a total capacity 18 mn tpa.
The company is also eyeing minor port projects near Jamnagar, Gujarat.
