No delay from Aviation Ministry to AirAsia’s JV

There would be no delay in granting necessary approvals to Malaysian carrier AirAsia for its proposal to start an airline here with Tatas if all required information is provided to government agencies, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said on March 17. There are some procedural issues which will be settled and there is nothing to worry. We welcome AirAsia-Tata Joint Venture (JV) and hope that it will be operational soon, he said on the sidelines of Routes Asia Conference held in Mumbai.

OMCs to share aviation fuel facilities with Pvt firms

In what could open the aviation turbine fuel (ATF) market for private companies, the State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have agreed, in-principle, to share their storage facilities to feed Asia's largest terminal at New Delhi. The decision was taken during a meeting between aviation and petroleum ministries last week, a senior government official said. With this move, private ATF sellers will get overnight access to assets created by government firms, said a senior executive with an OMC.

HC lets Badra Intl to start operation in Chennai, Kolkata

The Madras High Court on March 12 allowed private sector firm Badra International to commence its operation in ground handling services in Chennai and Kolkata airports. Dismissing a PIL, a Division Bench comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and Aruna Jagadeesan noted that the Federation of Indian Airlines and other airline carriers had filed a similar petition in Delhi High Court and the same was dismissed.

AAI spends over Rs 34 cr on non-operational airports

In the last three years, Airports Authority of India (AAI) has spent over Rs 34 crore on maintenance of 31 non-operational airports in the country. Apart from the 31 non-operational airports, there are 45 defence airports, 83 state government airports and five private air strips lying unused, KC Venugopal, Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation told the Rajya Sabha last week.

Airlines unable to display number of seats at each fare level

Domestic airlines have expressed their inability to comply with the Supreme Court's direction to display the number of seats at each fare level and compressing the wide range of prices for a route. The airline chiefs, who met aviation regulator DGCA recently, argued that implementation of the order would be tantamount to regulation of airfares, something which the government has ruled out.

Etihad, Jet Airways yet to approach govt for deal

Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma on March 14 said neither Jet Airways nor Etihad Airways has approached the government with a formal investment proposal. Sharma said that the government has so far not received a formal proposal from Etihad for investing in Jet Airways. Jet has been in talks with Etihad to sell 24 per cent stake for the past few months for around $300 million.

Agency reports indicate that Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) may clear around Rs 50,000 crore worth projects by March 2014. In 2013-14, India would see many projects coming on stream. Department of Economic Affairs Secretary Arvind Mayaram is quoted as saying this by a leading news agency
