Chennai airport installs solar panels
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has installed solar panels on the cargo complex of Chennai airport, as part of its green initiative. The panels will take care of 80 per cent of the power requirement of the cargo section. The plant can generate approximately 5 MW.
DERC wants more non-tariff revenue for discoms
New Delhi´s power regulatory body has proposed changes in its regulations to allow discoms, which claim to be under financial stress, to retain a larger share of their non-tariff income.
KSERC extends power tariff validity
The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) has extended the validity of the existing power tariffs till September 30 or until the time new rates are announced, whichever is earlier.
Panvel plans to revive Uran road bio-gas plant
Panvel Municipal Council (PMC) has initiated steps to revive a defunct bio-gas plant located in the market yard area on Uran road. After PMC sought the help of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in reviving the project, BARC submitted a proposal to revive the plant at a cost of around Rs.25 lakh.
WTE plants to come up in Chennai
Greater Chennai Corporation´s plan to launch waste-to-energy plants in Kodungaiyur and Perungudi are nearing fruition. The civic body has done a study on a range of subjects such as waste characterisation in the city and quantifying the waste dumped for the waste-to-energy project
Kudankulam Unit 2 to be connected to power grid
Days after the first unit of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant was inaugurated, officials of the Russian firm involved in the project have said that Unit 2 will soon be connected to the power grid.
SECI to float tenders for wind projects
Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) will float tenders for setting up wind projects with cumulative capacity of 1,000 MW to supply power to non-windy states. ´SECI will float tenders for total wind power capacity of 1,000 MW. This will be tariff based competitive bidding and will be awarded to bidders quoting lowest price (power tariff) bid,´ a senior official said.
NHPC completes Teesta hydro project
State-run NHPC´s 160 MW Teesta Low Dam IV hydro project in Darjeeling has become fully operational. The 40 MW Unit-4 of the project has become commercially operational. Three units of the TLDP-IV project were commissioned on February 14, March 31 and July 1 this year.
Jharkhand revises royalty income from coal auctions
The success of the recently concluded coal mines auctions is poised to increase Jharkhand´s royalty income from coal mines by 73.5 per cent, as the state now aims to receive Rs.5,500 crore as royalty income each year.
