Huawei is in talks with top mobile operators for contracts to roll out fourth-generation networks. The companyĂ´s core equipment supply business had taken a severe hit over the past couple of years, mainly because of the cancellation of some 122 telecom licences in early 2012, policy uncertainty surrounding the sector and security concerns that Chinese-made equipment installed in local telecom networks could be used for spying.
Bharti Airtel, Etisalat tie-up
UAEĂ´s Etisalat and Bharti Airtel have entered into a partnership to set up a multi-service regional network infrastructure node in the region. It includes AirtelĂ´s MPLS services supported by its global network which will allow Airtel to provide advanced data and wholesale services to its customers in the Middle East and Africa.

Telecom Commission to introduce graded penalty system
The Telecom Commission will soon decide on a new graded financial penalty system for telecom operators. The penalties will range from Rs1 lakh as a warning to Rs 50 crore for a severe infraction.
HCC JV wins Karnatak A project
Hindustan Construction Company in a JV with GVPR Engineers has been awarded Rs 904-crore contract in Karnataka for diverting flood water to certain drought-prone areas.The contract from Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd is for diversion of flood water from Sakleshpur to Kolar, Chikkaballpur (East) under Yettinahole diversion project package IV.
State roads to become NH
The government is to declare about 7,200 km of roads in approximately 132 districts as national highways. The move is seen as a last minute attempt by the government to improve its tally to bringing in more roads under the NH network. In the past four-and-a-half years, about 10,000 km of state highways were added to the NH network and the fresh addition will take the tally to over 17,000 km under this umbrella.
IVRCL bags orders worth over Rs.2,600 crore
VRCL has bagged orders worth Rs 2,633 crore in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The companyĂ´s irrigation division has secured orders worth Rs 2,492 crore while the water divisionĂ´s orders stood at Rs 140.85 crore, according to the company. The Andhra Pradesh government has awarded works under the Chittor District Water Supply Programme Phase-I to its water division. All the works will have to be executed between 18-36 months.
