Kerala to develop NHs into 45-m width
Kerala government will see to that the national highways in the state be developed with 45-metre width, said the State Public Works Department Minister VK Ebrahim Kunju. The Minister said this at the two-day seminar on ĂâInnovative initiatives for road developmentĂâ beginning on November 6 in Thiruvananthapuram.
NHAI cuts land demand for highway widening
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has submitted a revised proposal to the Madhya Pradesh state wildlife wing seeking clearance for 37-km road widening between Mansar in Maharashtra and Khawasa in Madhya Pradesh on NH7. In the revised proposal, the NHAI has reduced the land requirement for the project.
Upgradation of Shahkot-Punia road begins
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the Punjab mandi board has initiated the process to upgrade the Shahkot-Punia link road. A road stretch of 10.25-km is being upgraded under the scheme and widened to 33 feet from existing 22 feet.
Demolition drive soon in Varanasi for road work
In Varanasi, demolition drive to remove the demarcated portions of the buildings for four-laning work of Rathyatra-Bhullanpur road is likely to be started very soon. The administration has taken a decision to intensify the demolition drive to pave the way for the road widening.
Vellore Collector does a quality check on road works
Vellore district Collector R Nanthagopal on November 5 inspected a newly laid road in Ananthalai panchayat in the district. It is constructed at a cost of Rs 27 lakh and it is 1.5 km in length. He also inspected a 220-metre long cement road at Chettithangal panchayat laid at a cost of Rs 4.35 lakh.
Tariff dodging dents toll income on highways
Media reports say that private companies' investments into highways in India have taken a beating with the toll dodging practice by some sections of vehicles including those of politicians in the country. Ambulances, fire trucks and the cars of senior government officials are among those exempted from paying tolls, but other drivers often claim a free ride, say an official with GVK Power and Infrastructure.
Shift of road work from BRO to Manipur PWD opposed
A memorandum has been submitted to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by expressing opposition to the Union government's decision to entrust construction work of Khongshang-Tamenglong road in Manipur to the State PWD from the Border Road Organisation (BRO).
Work starts on road over Vanchiyoor canal in T’puram
In Thiruvananthapuram, Work on a new road over the Vanchiyoor canal was launched on November 5. The work, launched by the Kerala Public Works Minister VK Ebrahim Kunju, will see 300 metres of the canal having slabs laid over it at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore to enable transport over it.
Work to start soon on Rs 250 cr Kochi airport terminal
To meet the growing demands of air travel for the next 20 years, Cochin International Airport (CIAL) will soon take up the construction of a new terminal. The proposed 15 lakh sq.ft terminal is estimated to cost Rs 250-crore.
