Minister proud of performance in 2012-13
Union Minister for Shipping GK Vasan said the achievement of his ministry was outstanding during 2012-13, in terms of awarding capacity augmentation projects at major ports. GPCB allows Navlakhi Port to transport coal
Media reports indicate that the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) allowed Navlakhi Port to transport the coal piled up at the port to various parts of the country. However, the board has not revoked its earlier decision to ban fresh coal import shipments at the port owing to air pollution
Pipavav port handles 6% more marine export cargo
Gujarat-based Pipavav port handled 233,738 tonne of marine exports in 2012-13, 6 per cent higher than 219,801 tonne handled in the previous year, data from Marine Products Export Development Authority shows. It is learnt that the port continues to be a leading facility for export of seafood, in terms of quantity, for the second consecutive year in 2012-13
Koderma-Giridih railway track opened in Jharkhand
Jharkhand Chief Minister BabulalMarandi on June 25 flagged off the first passenger train between Koderma and Nawadih on Koderma-Nawadih-Giridih railway track under Dhanbad division. The railway network - the foundation stone for which was laid by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2005 - will help people of Koderma, Domchanch, Markacho, Maheshpu and Nawadih. The Rs 371.36-crore Koderma-Giridih track project, covering 111 km, was sanctioned and supposed to be commissioned by 2005-06.
Bangalore’s six key roads to be widened, improved
The Karnataka government is to widen and improve six important roads in its capital Bangalore. Hence commuters from the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) can hope for a smooth ride to the central business district as the government to improve and widen the Hebbal flyover on a priority. J&K rural road network to get Rs 710 cr
For development of rural roads in Jammu and Kashmir the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on June 25 announced Rs 710 crore additional grants. The sum is for land acquisition for expansion and upgradation of rural road network in the state. Singh made the announcement after a meeting with the Council of Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir during which he reviewed the progress of various development projects, especially the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Programme.
BRO to repair highways damaged in flood
The Border Roads Organization (BRO) would focus on repairing and restore the damaged highways in areas badly-affected by flood in Uttarakhand. After reviewing the damage caused to roads, including the strategic ones being built along the border with China, in the flash floods in Uttarakhand, Defence Minister AK Antony asked the BRO to carry out their repairs within the earliest possible time-frame
Bad roads trouble C’atore commuters at busy junction
In Coimbatore, the Ramanathapuram Junction bad roads are bothering the commuters. The Trichy Road stretch at the Junction was cut across by a trench-like structure to take an underground drainage pipeline to the southern end of the Road. It was closed two days ago, thanks to repeated complaints from the area residents and road users. Upon turning south on to the Nanjundapuram Road, the road user encounters a narrow stretch, made narrower by parked vehicles on the southern side.
PPT to have control over Kanika Sands island
Paradip Port Trust (PPT) will have control over the Kanika Sands, an island off the Odisha coast, as the union shipping ministry cancelled the earlier notification extending the port limit of Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) to cover the island. In a soon-to-be made gazette notification, the ministry decided to extend the jurisdiction of PPT to the island.
