To check the quality of road construction in the country, the Union Road Ministry has decided to engage independent experts. The Ministry said that it has received several complaints of poor quality of road construction. The independent experts will keep a vigil on various parameters such as standard and timely execution of road projects, the Ministry said.

Nagpur civic body to use new tech for road digging
To reduce damages to dug up roads in its purview the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is to adopt a technology called 'Horizontal Drilling Direction' (HDD) to cut roads. Road overbridge in Nagpur may open soon to ease traffic
In Nagpur, the road overbridge (ROB) near GaosiManapur is expected to be complete in a month or so. Once it is completed commuters can hope for reduction in heavy traffic inside the city at night. The outer ring road (ORR) stretch linking Gondkhairi on Amravati Road and GaosiManapur on Wardha Road is complete except for a 150-foot span over the railway line.
Rains hinder ghat road repairs in TN’s Nilgiris district
In Tamil Nadu, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to complete the repair and maintenance works on the ghat road to the Nilgiris at the earliest. Though it started the works last month, rain in the Blue Mountains has slowed down the job. NHAI said that it planned to repair and strengthen the road for 114 km from Kallar to Kakanallah in three phases.

Decision soon on exit clause for highway developers
The Union Cabinet is soon to discuss the proposal for exit clause for highway developers. If the proposal is cleared, road contractors can exit from a road project by bringing in a new developer after the financial closure is complete. The exit clause proposal can only be triggered by the contractor who plans to exit, and cannot be moved without the consent of the bank, which has funded the project.
Hyderabad’s Mettuguda road to be repaired soon
In Hyderabad, the authorities concerned have initiated steps to repair the main road opposite the St. AnthonyĂâs Church to Mettuguda junction, which is in a bad condition. Fresh survey ordered for 6-lane stretch in Pune area
In Pune, the district administration has ordered a fresh survey of the stretch between toll plaza at Shindewadi and the beginning of the highway near the Katraj tunnel. This was done in connection with land acquisition for a project, said the Pune District Collector Vikas Deshmukh on June 20. Lok Sabha MP from Baramati, Supriya Sule during the day held a meeting of villagers from Khed Shivapur with the district collector to hear grievances put forward by the villagers.
