Microfinance institutions’ loan portfolio rises 23%
As per a report by the Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN) the gross loan portfolio (GLP) of microfinance institutions (MFIs) rose to 23 per cent across the country in 2012-13 with AP MFIs growing 7 per cent and non-AP MFIs witnessing a growth of 39 per cent.
RBI mulls open market operations
Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor HR Khan has said that the RBI is looking at conducting open market operations (OMO) after assessing the government's cash balance, RBI will assess the liquidity situation and then see what the government balance is, whether it is short term or long term. The government balance is quite substantial, he added.
Kolkata port calls for tenders again for Haldia Port

Vizhinjam to become India’s deepest port
In Kerala, the Vizhinjam international seaport will have the deepest draft in the country and it will be able to berth mega vessels of 18,000 TEU capacity. The master plan for the proposed Rs 4,010-crore Vizhinjam project, which was unveiled on May 30, says the port will have several such unique features and is expected to attract many international vessels that pass through the western coast.
Goa asks MPT to take its permission for any construction
To carry out any construction in its operational area
Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) will now have to obtain prior permission from the Goa government authorities. The State's Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has directed MPT to submit a layout and building plans of the area allotted to MPT, along with a master plan for future development to the statutory authorities.
Absence of safety measures lead to killing of pillion rider
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on May 27 admitted that no safety measures were planned at the Indiranagar underpass of Nashik, where a 22-year-old was killed on May 25. Pankaj Shinde of Yashaswi apartment, Tornanagar, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding pillion was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle at the recently constructed Indiranagar underpass beneath the city's iconic 5.6-km flyover on the Mumbai-Agra highway during the wee hours of Saturday.

Work starts on flyover in Lucknow near ex-CM’s house
Work has started on a flyover at Mall Avenue, which had raised the hackles of BSP supremo Mayawati as it would pass near her residence and party office. The flyover, to be constructed by Uttar Pradesh Bridges Corporation at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore, would be 15 m wide, 650 m long and would be completed in 15 months, official sources said. The State government had proposed to construct the flyover in its annual budget.
Railway overbridge ready at Payyannur in Kannur
In Kerala's Kannur region, the railway overbridge at Kotti, near Payyannur, has finally become a reality, and the State Chief Minister OommenChandy will open it for traffic shortly.
