Govt admits slow progress in road building due to its own hurdles
Delays in environment and forest clearance and land acquisition have contributed a lot in causing slackened progress in road building. The Parliament was informed on April 25. The progress of construction of National Highways has been slow due to several problems such as land acquisition, shifting of utilities, environmental and forest clearance, as well as manpower and economic slowdown, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Tushar A Chaudhary said in the Rajya Sabha.
Govt clears 2 National Highway projects in Rajasthan
The Union government approved two highway extension projects in Rajasthan involving investments of Rs 713 crore with assistance from the World Bank. A press release from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said that government has approved a proposal for rehabilitation and upgrading of two stretches of National Highways in Rajasthan under Phase I of National Highway Interconnectivity Improvement Projects (NHIIP) with World Bank loan assistance.

Jharsuguda airport to be expanded in 119 acres
For expansion of Jharsuguda airport, the Odisha government has asked the Jharsuguda district collector to identify 119 acre of land there. In a letter to the district collector, the government last week stated that the land should be identified according to the demand and revised master plan of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for expansion of Jharsuguda airport, spread over 909.22 acre.
