The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to scrap six projects worth Rs 4,000 crore due to land acquisition hurdles. NHAI's move comes while the Union Ministry of Road Transport has been trying to revive interest in the road sector through a slew of measures including amendments in the exit policy for private developers and rescheduling the premium that the developers owe the NHAI.

Goa to take up road repairs from Sept 15
The Goa government will take up road repairs from September 15. Roads battered by rains will be taken up for repairs and those road contracts with three-year warranty period will be repaired by the contractors concerned at their cost. The State Public Works Department (PWD) will undertake temporary repairs as soon as the rains recedes.

In Odisha's Brajrajnagar Municipality area commuting during monsoon is a struggle for the residents. Water puddles dot the roads. The condition prevails in the Municipality which was awarded as the best Municipality by the Chief Minister this year. Underpass planned at Rs 115 cr at IIT-Delhi on NH 24
To ease traffic on the busy NH 24, the Noida Authority has sent an estimate of Rs 115 crore for a proposed underpass at the crossroads of the highway to IIT-Delhi. Over 30K trees to be axed to expand highway in J’khand
In Jharkhand's Ranchi and Khunti divisions, 16,000 trees are likely to be felled while in Jamshedpur division another 14,000 trees will be felled to pave way for the four-laning of the 165 km Ranchi-Jamshedpur National Highway 33.
Concern over delay in PMGSY road projects in Odisha
In Odisha, implementation of road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) are getting delayed and the Union government has expressed concern on the same. The Union government is also worried over the quality of the construction work of the roads under PMGSY. This has been conveyed to the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh through a letter.
Govt asks NHAI to drop slow-progress projects
The Union government has asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to review all its languishing projects and identify those projects that can be terminated on contractual grounds, so that they can be bid for all over again. Several of NHAI projects awarded in recent years are either stranded midway or have been complete non-starters.
Court orders probe into road work in Kochi
In Kochi, the Vigilance Court has ordered a probe into the Manikkanamparambu road work allegedly constructed using the municipal fund to help a private builder. The probe may put Tripunithura Municipal Chairman R Venugopal in a fix. Fund misappropriation has also been alleged in the road work.
Plea to Kerala govt to construct new roads to ease traffic
In Kochi, local civic bodies have demanded the Kerala government to complete construction of Tripunithura bypass road to decongest Kochi city roads. The local city bodies want the State government to initiate action and take up new road projects that will ease the traffic congestion on the city roads while also connecting the southern and eastern regions of Kochi.
Kalpi Road in Kanpur to be reconstructed soon
The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned work order for reconstruction of Kalpi Road (National Highway -25) Kanpur between Jarib Chauky and Vijay Nagar Crossing. Historic Kalpi Road connects Kanpur to Jhansi and is a part of the National Highway -25. The State Public Works Department (PWD) in Kanpur had sent a proposal in this regard to its headquarter.
