A High Power Committee (HPC) has been formed by the Nagaland government to study the road system in Dimapur and to draw up Action Plan for works on several roads in the city. The State Roads and Buildings Minister Kuzholuzo (Azo) Neinu had stated on August 16 that the government would fully empower the HPC to tackle issues involving these road projects in the city.

NHAI to cancel three highway projects
Media reports say that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Board on August 22 has decided to cancel three highway projects of PNC Infra, C&C Construction and Era Infrastructure. Sources concerned said that the developers had not paid the performance guarantee amount after winning the projects and that is why the Board has decided to cancel the highway projects. These developers would lose their bid security, which is one per cent of total project cost.
GHMC committee rages over road maintenance works
The Standing Committee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on August 22 expressed its dissatisfaction over the road maintenance works in Hyderabad city and non-implementation of various resolutions by the engineering staff concerned. The Committee members took objection to the functioning style of engineers and said the resolutions of the committee and general body were not being implemented.
India, China to share practices in road construction
When Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits China in October next, India and China are set to sign an agreement for cooperation in the road and transport sector. The areas of cooperation have been identified and agreed by both the sides and these include sharing the best practices in road building technology and road safety related issues. China has made huge progress in building world class highways and over 60,000 km of expressways.
Landslide-hit road in Imphal repaired
In Manipur's capital, Imphal, normal traffic movement along Mao-Lakhamai road, which was disrupted since past few days due to landslides at several places, has been restored on August 22. The sunk portions of roads were revamped, which is a great relief to the people of around 30 villages of Senapati district. The 45-km road is an important road of Karong AC next to NH-2 in the state.
Planning Commission, NHAI differ over Rs 6000-cr project
The Planning Commission is not in favour of the National Highways Authority of India's insistence of rescheduling the premium of Kishangarh-Udaipur-Ahmedabad highway project. The Planning Commission is of the view that NHAI should go for re-bidding of the Kishangarh-Udaipur-Ahmedabad project in the wake of GMR walking out of it.
NHAI may terminate 3 road projects
Taking note of a three road developers' inability to furnish Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) board on August 23 considered termination of the three road projects. NHAI said that the board considered three projects for termination due to the inability of developers to furnish IMG. There were seven more projects, which are not moving, in the list. These projects were left out now, NHAI said.
Resurfacing to 15 roads in Nashik
In Nashik city, 15 major roads will be resurfaced soon. The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) on August 22 approved a proposal in this regard. The NMC had proposed to resurface the 15 roads after the monsoon and has finalised private contractors for the road work. NMC Standing committee chairman Ramesh Dhongade said that the committee approved the proposal to resurface the 15 roads at a cost of around Rs 14 crore.
New ROB to replace Periyar Nagar bridge in Chennai
In Chennai, a new road over bridge (ROB) is to be constructed across the railway track at Periyar Nagar on the Thiruvanaikovil Trunk Road. The ROB construction is to be taken up by the Tamil Nadu State Highways Department and it is set to call tenders next month for the same. The Rail Vikas Nigam, a public sector undertaking, will construct the Railway portion of the proposed ROB, say sources in the State department.
Hyderabad needs all-weather roads: Experts
Fed up with the travel on Hyderabad roads, experts have suggested the government to call in global experts and build one or two model roads in the city and follow such method of constructing long-lasting roads. As the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is not following a professional approach for road building and maintenance, and thats why most of the city roads are now in a bad shape, experts like S Nagabhushan Rao, adviser to the World Bank-aided Road Safety Project in Andhra Prad
