An ambitious coastal road from Mumbai´s Nariman Point to Kandivali may be finally taking shape. CM Devendra Fadnavis has told the State Assembly that Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar has given an in-principle approval to the project. ´Nearly 60 per cent of Mumbai´s traffic passes through the western suburbs. This coastal road will decongest traffic. The environmental notification of 2011 doesn´t mention this coastal road. We have now spoken to Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar who has in principle agreed to clear it,´ said the Chief Minister.
The project report is almost ready. ´We need 110 hectares for building the coastal road. We have sought an exception from Javadekar, who has reacted positively to our demand,´ said a BMC official.
