In Manipur’s capital, Imphal, normal traffic movement along Mao-Lakhamai road, which was disrupted since past few days due to landslides at several places, has been restored on August 22. The sunk portions of roads were revamped, which is a great relief to the people of around 30 villages of Senapati district. The 45-km road is an important road of Karong AC next to NH-2 in the state.

Due to heavy downpour since past seven days, the road witnessed landslides at many areas recently and the condition of the road became deteriorated. Sensing the inconvenience and hardships faced by the villagers of around 30 villages, the area MLA V Alexander Pao took initiative to repair the road with the funds from his local area development fund, the MLA added.

The MLA urged the State Works Minister Kh Ratankumar to inspect the condition of road that connects Mao and Lakhamai via Purul. He said that villagers usually face inconvenience at the time of medical emergency and transportation of essential commodities.

The road needs culverts and bridges at many places and measures should be taken to check landslides, the MLA said and expressed hope that the State Government would take up early steps to repair the road in a better way.
