McNally Bharat (MBE), one of the leading EPC companies in India, is celebrating its Golden Anniversary in 2011. MBE started operations in a small way in 1961 in Kumardhubi, Dhanbad, where it manufactured equipment for the coal and mining industry. Since then MBE has grown into a global multi-product company. In 2002 MBE acquired EWB, Hungary a leader in ash handling and pneumatic handling. In 2009, MBE acquired the coal & mineral processing division of KHD Humboldt Wedag, Germany.

With a team of over 1,500 engineers, MBE is providing one stop solutions to clients covering basic and detail engineering, manufacturing of key equipment, project management, procurement, construction, erection & com­missioning of plants, QA & surveillance, after sales service, O&M, adapting state-of-the-art technologies from global leaders. MBE has executed more than 300 projects as an EPC contractor in various sectors such as coal & power, mining & metals, non-ferrous & aluminium, iron & steel, port & shipyard, industrial construction, water man­agement, cement and infrastructure projects.

MBE is presently executing two large EPC projects, the Sinter Plant-3 for RINL Vizag steel plant and a balance of plant package for Ideal Energy Projects, Nagpur.

Vizag Steel Sinter Plant

MBE is executing a 408 sq m Sinter Plant-3 for RINL Vizag steel plant. This is part of the 6.3-mtpa expansion project of RINL. MBE scope of work includes design, de­tail engineering, manufacturing, structural steel fabri­ca­tion, supply, erection, testing, commissioning and esta­blis­hing performance guarantee test. Technology provider is TYazhpromexport (TPE), Russia/Ukrgipromez (UKRG), Ukraine. Contract value of the project is around Rs 7,000 million. Presently the plant is under commi­ssioning. More than 100 engineers/supervisors and 1,100 workers are working to make this project successful.

Salient features of the plant: Average production capacity of sinter: 10,950 tpd, Circular sinter cooler area: 420 sq m, Sinter machine building, Gas mains with sup­porting structures: 2,500 mt, Chimney height: 120 m, ESP (2 Nos) – Gas volume: 1200,000 cu m/hr each, and Waste gas fan motor (2 Nos.): 8.8 MW each.

Some key construction features: Piles: 3,000 Nos, Concreting: 70,000 cu m, Building structure fabrication and erection: 18,000 mt, Technological structure fabrication and erection: 6,000 mt, Sheeting: 100,000 sq m, and Equipment erection: 17,000 mt.

Balance of plant

MBE is executing balance of plant package for 1 X 270 MW thermal power project of Ideal Energy Projects Limited, Nagpur. This is a greenfield project and scope includes design, engineering, procurement, erection, tes­ting, commissioning and establishing performance guar­antee test for balance of plant project including entire civil and structural work. Contract value of the project is Rs 4,270 million. The project is nearing commissioning. More than 80 engineers/supervisors and 1,200 workers are wor­king to make this project successful. Around 2,000 draw­ings were made for the project.

Salient features: The scope includes power house bui­lding, TG foundations, boiler, ESP & all BTG founda­tions, entire electrical works including BTG as well as BOP.

Major packages: Ash handling plant, coal handling plant, cooling tower, fuel oil handling, water pre-treatment & DM plant, mill reject, effluent treatment plant, CW/ACW system, fire protection, LP piping, 400 kV switchyard, com­plete electrical package including switch­gears & ca­bling of BTG, 220 m chimney, complete civil & structural wo­rks including BTG civil work, plant roads & drains, area grading.
