30 battery operated electric buses and 18 bus charging stations were approved by the civic transport wing committee. In order to be financed under the Central GovernmentÂ’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric (and Hybrid) Vehicles in India (FAME- 1) scheme, Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport had sent a proposal to the Department of Heavy Industry for the project. With an estimated cost of Rs 421.81 million of which 12.84 for each bus and Rs 34.8 million for charging stations, the Centre will be providing 60 per cent subsidy to government and semi-government organisations in case they buy the electric vehicles. Another 10 per cent subsidy is provided for bus charging facility.
