The Uttar Pradesh government has made it clear that the road widening project in Varanasi city will become functional in January next.
The State Minister of State for PWD and Irrigation Surendra Patel said this and stated that the government would not succumb to pressure from a section of traders, who are protesting the road widening.

Pact day announced for Sadbhav road project in Rajasthan
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has fixed October 9 as appointed date for a Rs 778-crore worth road widening project in Rajasthan. Infrastructure firm Sadbhav Engineering has bagged the road project from NHAI recently, the company said on October 4.
Locals file case against road widening in Hyd
In Hyderabad, the Lokayukta has registered a case against Serilingampally MLA Bikshapathi Yadav and GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu in connection with a road widening project from Botanical Gardens in Kondapur to the Old Bombay Highway. The case has been registered following a complaint filed by residents of Masid Banda village. According to the complaint, the widening will lead to encroachment upon reserve forest land and a water body.
Golf course road widening destroys green cover
Golf Course Road in Gurgaon has been left uncared for by the authorities concerned. Over the months, it has completely lost its green cover, thanks to the multi-crore road widening project being executed with public-private partnership. Road widening work in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj stayed
Expressing angry over Delhi government for its indiscriminate felling of trees the National Green Tribunal on April 9 ordered an interim stay on a road widening project in South DelhiÂ’s Vasant Kunj till the next hearing on May 29. The tribunal also warned the Delhi government of strong action if further felling of trees took place. The government admitted that the Public Works Department had started felling trees without mandatory permission from the Forest Department.
Bangalore’s Bannerghatta road to be widened soon
The iconic stone structure at the main entrance of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) will soon make way for a road widening project on Bannerghatta Road. The widening of the Bannerghatta-NICE Road stretch has been approved by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) recently.
Green tribunal stays Delhi road widening over tree felling
The National Green Tribunal has ordered an interim stay on PWD's road-widening project along the Andheria Mod-Mahipalpur stretch, where trees were found to be felled illegally. On March 18, a bench headed by NGT Chairman Justice Swatanter Kumar, asked the Delhi government, the Forest Department and PWD to not fell any tree except in cases where permission from the department concerned has been obtained till the next date of hearing.
