L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad received the first consignment of rails despatched by the French unit of Tata Steel.
Tata Steel’s unit in France is said to be having a proven record of supplying rails to major railway projects in the world and also to the Indian market.
These rails were transported by road on 60-feet special trailers to the Metro Rail Uppal depot after they were shipped to Mumbai.
L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad would begin track laying work in the Uppal depot soon as it received the rails from France. About 22,500 tonne of rails required for the metro will be procured in six lots as per the project schedule.
Owing to very sharp curves in this project, check rails are being provided on all curves of less than 190 metre radius, which will prevent the trains from derailing.
