Steel prices increased upto Rs 1,500 per tonne

Expecting demand to pick up in 2014, most of the domestic steel producers have raised the steel prices between Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per tonne. This move is aimed to offset increase in input and transport cost.

Pothole repairs on Shiradi Ghat road to be completed soon

Potholes on the busy Bangalore-Mangalore highway's Shiradi Ghat stretch will be filled by January 31. Work of filling potholes has already started. The repair work will be carried out in a transparent mannerm, said the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Oscar Fernandes in Mangalore on December 30.

Hindsight: The roads sector had planned for a highly ambitious growth rate. Earlier we were doing around 2,500-3,000 km every year. We then stepped up and said we would do 8,000 km-the confidence stemming from the fact that we were able to achieve as much as 7,800 km. In the last year or so, there hasn´t been much of a response in the market, partly because the economy had slowed down, and partly because there were some problems involving major players.
