Under Phase A and the Arunachal package of the Special Accelerated Road Development Project-North East (SARDP-NE), the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved construction of 6,418 km of road, said the Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Sarvey Sathyanarayana.

Govt announces National Manufacturing Policy
The Government of India has announced the National Manufacturing Policy on November 4, 2011 with the objective of enhancing the share of manufacturing in GDP to 25 per cent and creating 100 million jobs over a decade or so, said the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry EM Sudarsana Natchiappan in Rajya Sabha on December 11.
IIHFL to raise Rs 500 cr via NCDs
Through sale of non-convertible debentures (NCDs), India Infoline Housing Finance (IIHFL) is to raise Rs 500 crore, the company said on December 11. The NCDs matures in five years and offers a yield of 12.15 per cent per annum. The bond issue, which includes Rs 250 crore of greenshoe option, will open for subscription on December 12 and close on December 20.
Tata Steel launches new product for construction industry
A new value added product for the construction industry is to come from Tata Steel. It is called as 'Ground Granulated BF Slag' (GGBS). Tata Steel has planned to introduce the product very soon in the country, say media reports. GGBS has been widely used in developed economies for years and of late was also getting used in major construction projects in India, a company release said.
Karnataka gets Rs 1,299 cr to construct rural roads
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the Union government has sanctioned Rs 1,299 crore to Karnataka to build rural roads. This has been conveyed by the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
IVRCL to raise Rs 1,200 cr for capital needs
To supplement its working capital requirements, Hyderabad-based IVRCL is to raise Rs 1,200 crore and infuse capital into new projects. To facilitate fund-raising, the construction and infrastructure company has enlisted the services of SBI Caps, sources said.
Demand and supply only control cement prices: Govt
The control over price and distribution of cement has been removed since 1989. The industry was de-licensed in 1991 under the policy of economic liberalisation. Cement has also been removed from the list of essential commodities. Thus, presently the prices of cement are governed by the market forces of demand and supply.

Govt banks’ top 30 NPAs account for one-third of bad loans
The Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said that top 30 loan defaulters of public sector banks (PSBs) account for more than one-third of total gross non-performing assets (NPAs) of State-run lenders. The Minister told this to the Rajya Sabha on December 10.
