Road construction becomes risky in north-east India
Due to security concerns and threats from local terrorist groups in the north eastern region of the country, private road developers are not very keen to take up road projects. Freight rates hiked in SCI’s European sector
Government-owned Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) on November 20 announced a freight rate hike of up to $500 for 40-feet containers on the India-Europe sector. SCI is facing pressures on account of fuel price hike, the rupee movement and reduction in traffic due to which it is proposing the hikes to make operations feasible, said SCI.
Kerala takes measures for maritime safety
Kerala government is taking all measures for ensuring maritime safety, said the State Minister for Ports K Babu. He was speaking at the 15th meeting of the Maritime State Development Council held in Bangalore recently.
Nod to Solar Energy Policy in Kerala
Solar Energy Policy has been approved by the Kerala Cabinet. The policy seeks to increase installed capacity of the solar sector to 500 mw by 2017 and 1,500 mw by 2030. The mission is to contribute to long-term energy security of the State as well as ecological security by reduction in carbon emissions.

Shipping firms show interest in Kollam Port
Kollam Port is expecting more business opportunities as more and more major shipping companies are showing interest in the recently opened port. Kerala spots 8 areas for port development
The Kerala government has identified eight areas for the development of ports in the state and sought urgent aid from the Union government for the ports development. To handle containerised cargo at the Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD) of Kolkata port, eleven companies have shown initial interest to participate in a tender. The 11 firms have participated in a pre-bid techno-commercial conference.
